At Holy Spirit Primary School Thornbury East, we are a faith-centred learning community inspired by the teachings of Jesus.
We foster belonging, inclusion and respect by honouring the voice and dignity of every member of our community. In dialogue with Catholic beliefs and practices, we celebrate the diversity of Melbourne’s rich multi-faith and multicultural context.
Our Religious Education program supports each child to flourish spiritually, emotionally, socially and intellectually. Through engaging and meaningful learning experiences, students are encouraged to grow in faith, compassion and understanding of the world around them.
Religious Education learning unfolds through a clear progression across three strands and five key content areas:
Knowledge and Understanding: Seeking Truth (Head)
Students explore scripture, Catholic traditions, beliefs and teachings to deepen their understanding of faith and the world.
Reasoning and Responding: Making Meaning (Heart)
Students reflect, question and respond thoughtfully to life experiences, faith and contemporary issues.
Personal and Communal Engagement: Living Story (Hands)
Students put faith into action through prayer, service, relationships and participation in the life of the Church and community.
Sacramental Program
Children are prepared for and celebrate the Sacraments as part of our Middle and Senior Years curriculum. The Sacraments are celebrated in partnership with students from our parish primary schools:
- St Anthony’s Primary School
- St Joseph’s Primary School
- St Mary’s Primary School
Our sacramental celebrations include:
Reconciliation — Year 3
First Eucharist — Year 4
Confirmation — Year 6
Through prayer, liturgy, service and learning, Holy Spirit nurtures students to become people of faith, hope, compassion and action who are inspired to make a positive difference in the world.
