Physical Education

At Holy Spirit Primary School Thornbury East, Physical Education plays an important role in supporting students’ health, wellbeing, confidence and overall development. Our PE program encourages students to build lifelong habits of physical activity while developing teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship and leadership skills.

Through a variety of individual, partner and team activities, students develop:

  • Fundamental Movement Skills: Including running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance and coordination
  • Fitness and Physical Health: Encouraging active lifestyles, healthy habits and physical wellbeing
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Learning to work cooperatively, communicate effectively and support others
  • Resilience and Confidence: Building perseverance, self-belief and positive attitudes towards challenges
  • Sportsmanship and Respect: Developing fairness, inclusion and respectful participation in all activities
  • Game Sense and Strategy: Understanding rules, tactics and decision-making in a range of sports and games

Our PE program includes opportunities for students to participate in:

  • Weekly Physical Education lessons
  • Team sports and cooperative games
  • Athletics and fitness activities
  • Skill development programs
  • School sporting events and carnivals
  • Inter-school sport opportunities for senior students
  • House competitions and community-building activities

We aim to create inclusive learning environments where all students feel encouraged to participate, challenge themselves and experience success regardless of their skill level or prior experience.
