Visual Arts

At Holy Spirit Primary School Thornbury East, the Visual Arts program provides students with opportunities to explore creativity, express ideas and develop confidence as imaginative and reflective learners. Through engaging and hands-on experiences, students are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and celebrate their unique artistic voice.

Students explore a wide range of artistic skills, techniques and processes through experiences including:

  • Drawing and Painting: Developing creativity, observation and artistic techniques through a variety of media
  • Collage and Mixed Media: Exploring texture, colour, composition and visual storytelling
  • Printmaking and Design: Experimenting with pattern, shape and creative processes
  • Sculpture and Construction: Using different materials to create three-dimensional artworks and models
  • Art Appreciation and Reflection: Responding to and discussing artworks from different cultures, traditions and time periods
  • Connection to Culture and Community: Exploring artworks and perspectives that celebrate diversity, identity and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures

Our Visual Arts program encourages students to:

  • Express ideas, emotions and experiences creatively
  • Develop fine motor skills and confidence
  • Build resilience through experimentation and problem-solving
  • Reflect on and discuss their own work and the work of others
  • Appreciate creativity as a meaningful form of communication and self-expression

Students are also provided opportunities to showcase and celebrate their artwork through classroom displays, school events and community exhibitions, helping foster pride, confidence and connection within the school community.
